It’s been 12 years since George Lopez was on broadcast television and it appears that not only is Lopez making his way back, but he's bringing his daughter along for the ride. According to reports, Lopez will star and executive produce a new comedy called Lopez vs. Lopez, which has already received a formal pilot order from NBC.

Lopez’s daughter, Mayan Lopez, will fill in the position of the other titular Lopez, as she will star and produce the series. Lopez, Wolfe, and Helford also executive produce with Katie Newman and Michael Rotenberg of 3 Arts.

The pilot has been written by The Conners and One Day at a Time alum Debby Wolfe, with The Conners showrunner Bruce Helford supervising. Lopez and Helford are not strangers, as the latter co-created the critically-acclaimed ABC comedy series, George Lopez, with the comedian. Meanwhile, Lopez vs. Lopez is being described as: "a working-class family comedy about dysfunction, reconnection and all the pain and join in between."

Lopez’s previous series was unceremoniously canceled by ABC after six seasons. Lopez has gone on record as saying the reason for the cancellation was budgetary, as the show was produced by Warner Brothers and not ABC. Since the cancellation, Lopez hosted a talk show (Lopez Tonight) on TBS which only lasted two seasons, and led several other attempts at creating multi-cam sitcoms, one at TVLand (Lopez) and another at FX (Saint George). This new project would be a return to broadcast television for the 60-year-old comedian.

There is no word on when filming will begin, but it seems like Lopez vs. Lopez will likely air sometime in 2022 or 2023 on NBC. George Lopez can currently be viewed in syndication on TBS.
