I know, A Song of Ice and Fire readers -- your first thought after the news of George R. R. Martin developing a new series is surely: "what?! I thought GRRM was taking some serious time to finish up Winds of Winter!" Apparently the possible series -- called Captain Cosmos -- won't be a major time commitment for Martin (who has an overall development deal with HBO).

According to THR,

[The series] centers on a young sci-fi writer living in 1949 at the dawn of the age of TV. The writer spends his time penning stories no one else would dare to write.

Michael Casutt (Z Nation) is writing the pilot, so it looks like Martin won't be directly involved in the series (as far as writing goes, at least so far). The material, too, is clearly vastly different from that of Game of Thrones, so it will be really interesting to get another facet of Martin's world-building through it.

Meanwhile, hopefully he will be in his bunker finishing up The Winds of Winter, which he seems to be more committed to than ever (even dropping out of upcoming appearances to make more time for it). Me thinks that's probably because of the fire lit under him after Game of Thrones producers Dan Weiss and David Benioff made it clear that the series is going on without him, and may even reveal spoilers for the two final, unpublished books. Time will tell!

Game of Thrones Season 5 will premiere on Sunday, April 12th at 9 p.m. on HBO.
