The upcoming all-female Ghostbusters isn’t the only way forward for the franchise for Sony. Last October, we reported that an animated movie was in the works as well with Ivan Reitman producing. Like the beloved 1984 film and the 1986 Ghostbusters cartoon, the animated action comedy would follow a group of scientists team up to fend off the ghosts and ghouls invading Manhattan with the help of gizmos and gadgetry.

Now it looks like the animated Ghostbusters has moved a step forward by hiring commercial director Fletcher Moules to direct. Per THR, Moules’ biggest claim to fame is directing the commercials for the mobile gaming app Clash of Clans, which I suppose is better news than Sony developing a Clash of Clans movie.

The animated Ghostbusters is just another piece of Sony trying to create a cinematic universe out of Ghostbusters. There’s also another live-action film in the works with Channing Tatum potentially starring and Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) set to produce and direct. However, if they were to direct, this would put the project in the distant future since they’re already lined up to helm Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II as their follow up to Captain America: Civil War.

How do you feel about a new Ghostbusters animated movie? Does it detract from Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters film or do you think that there’s something to an “expanded universe” using the Ghostbusters IP. Sound off in the comments section.
