Interest is at a fever pitch for director Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, both from folks who are enthused about the idea of a female-led redo, and from those who think it’s an abomination that will retroactively ruin their childhood and remove joy from their lives forever. Either way, everyone is curious to see just what’s up with the new film, and as production is now underway in Boston, Feig and Sony Pictures have been unveiling sneak peeks at things like the new costumes and the new Ecto-1.

Last week, Feig revealed a teaser image of the film’s new twist on the proton pack, which honestly isn’t terribly different from the original. But the pack is currently on display at the convention floor at Comic-Con 2015, and Steve was able to snap a number of close-up photos of the ghostbusting device.

Again, there aren’t really any enormous changes from the original iteration of the device. I like how Feig has maintained the “homemade” quality of it rather than going with a slick, “new and improved” look. It gives a slight indication of the direction Feig and writer Kate Dippold are going with the reboot, which appears to be a ragtag group of individuals operating outside the realms of traditional agencies.

Anyway, take a look at the photos below, and click here to catch up on all of our Comic-Con 2015 coverage thus far. Ghostbusters opens July 22, 2016 and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Andy Garcia, Cecily Strong, Michael K. Williams, and Neil Casey.
