While we still have a while to wait for Hollywood’s Godzilla sequel given that director Gareth Edwards is busy in post-production on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, there is a new Godzilla movie coming to theaters this year, albeit from the original source. A few months after the release of Edwards’ Godzilla, Toho announced that it would be developing its own reboot of the iconic monster, asserting that it would “not lose to Hollywood,” and the fruits of their labor have been revealed with the first Godzilla: Resurgence trailer.

It’s interesting to see the difference in trailer styles from Japan, with this preview made up almost entirely of intense reaction shots to the giant monster while very big music plays over the footage. As for Godzilla himself, this iteration has a much longer, snake-like tail, and his face is rather angry-looking.

Directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, the film—titled Shin Godzilla—stars Hiroki HasegawaSatomi Ishihara, and Yutaka Takenouchi and is slated for release in Japan on July 29th, but no domestic release date has been set just yet. Take a look at the trailer below as we await the 2018 release of Edwards’ sequel.
