Director Gareth Edwards Shares Video Greeting from the Set of GODZILLA; Plus First Set Images

     March 19, 2013

It was just yesterday that we received word that Gareth Edwards‘ (Monsters) new take on Godzilla had begun filming in Vancouver.  Today, we get a video greeting from the man himself that is short but certainly sweet—sweet in the sense that Gareth’s a good chap—plus, a batch of tantalizing photos from the set.

Hit the jump to check ’em out.  Starring Aaron Taylor-JohnsonElizabeth OlsenJuliette BinocheDavid Strathairn,  Bryan Crantson and Ken Watanabe, with a script from Max BorensteinFrank Darabont, and Dave CallahamGodzilla opens in 3D on May 16, 2014.

While details on plot are firmly hush-hush, based on the film’s brief appearance at Comic-Con last year, this is going to be a realistic take on big G—I would say you don’t have to go far for a good example of what to expect with this by looking at Edwards’ previous flick Monsters.

The set photos reveal (unsurprisingly) a slew of military vehicles, including a majorly thrashed helicopter, as well as an airport terminal location, which, as you will see in the video, appears to be in Japan.

While never the biggest Godzilla fan, I can say Edwards is a smart, economical choice as the man to re-imagine the radioactive monster, and with the above cast… man… I think we’re likely to get the best-acted giant monster movie ever.  Or, at least, the best since the 2006 Korean hit The Host.  Check out the photos and chime in with your thoughts below.
