This might be an unorthodox way to start off a Lenten observance, but it's also thematically in the wheelhouse. Amazon has released a new trailer for its upcoming 6-part limited series Good Omens, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The series follows the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) as they race to stop the apocalypse in the days after the birth of the Anti-Christ.

Gaiman wrote and is showrunning the series, with Douglas Mackinnon directing. The production boasts an absolutely fantastic cast, including Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Mireille Enos, among others.

Further, though the trailer doesn't yet reveal it, we'll hear Frances McDormand as the voice of God, and Benedict Cumberbatch voicing Satan. (Gaiman recently spoke with us about getting Cumberbatch on board for the role, and a little of what to expect from it).

But, the trailer does make the series look like a jolly good romp, and while some of the effects are a little questionable, the chemistry between Sheen and Tennant is nothing short of excessively charming. The look they give each other on that wall, and the later, toasting to the world ... sigh. Jon Hamm's Archangel Gabriel feels like a heavenly version of Don Draper, which I'm truly and fully here for.

Good Omens launches worldwide on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, May 31st. Check out the new trailer below:
