GOTHAM Comic-Con Panel Recap Teases the Rise of the Villains and New Heroes

     July 12, 2015

Fox’s superhero series Gotham has a decidedly more grounded and gritty feel to it than other similar shows, but that won’t stop the lunatics from taking over the asylum in season two. There wasn’t a lot of news in this Comic-Con panel, but it did feature one particularly fun villainous surprise to close it out.

  • After screening a preview of the season two premiere which reveals that Arkham’s worst have risen to power and Gordon is doing his best to keep Gotham from boiling over, the cast and crew took to the stage.
  • Executive Producers Bruno Heller, John Stephens, Geoff Johns and Danny Cannon, were joined by stars Ben McKenzie, Morena Baccarin, Donal Logue, Robin Lord Taylor, Sean Pertwee, Camren Bicondova, David Mazouz, Erin Richards, and Cory Michael Smith.

Season two will see the rise of the villains, a new breed that adds a theatricality and grotesque nature to their crimes. Expect a bigger, bolder, more colorful season.

  • This year, Cat will get to not only explore her background but will start to decide whether she’s following the path of villainy or heroism.

  • In response to the rise of the villains, Jim Gordon must also rise to the occasion. As McKenzie describes it, this arms race will introduce new heroes on the side of the good guys in order to combat the villains. Harvey Bullock, however, remains less than idealistic.
  • The tumultuous relationship of Bruce and Alfred will smooth over a bit in season two as they settle into training in earnest.
  • Jerome, aka The Joker (Cameron Monaghan), interrupts a “fan” asking a question in order to steal the spotlight, but security takes him out and McKenzie promises that he’ll find him.
