Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-2-James-Gunn-interview-slice

One of my favorite movies of 2014 is James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.  Loaded with great performances, an extremely funny script, and some fantastic action sequences, the movie blew past everyone's expectations to become one of the most popular movies of 2014.  As most of you know, the story follows five intergalactic misfits—Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper)—as they set out to protect a powerful and mysterious orb from the villainous Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).  For more on the film, read Matt’s review, or click here for all our previous coverage.

With Guardians of the Galaxy arriving on Blu-ray/DVD December 9th (click here to pre-oder on Amazon), a few days ago I landed an exclusive video interview with James Gunn.  He talked about if he'd ever screen an extended cut and how the deleted scenes fit into the movie, holding back deleted scenes for the eventual Phase 2 Blu-ray box set, Easter eggs in the background of The Collector's lair, Adam Warlock's cocoon, where he is in the writing process on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, if he'll include Adam Warlock, new characters, the title, and so much more.  Hit the jump to watch.

While you can watch the entire conversation below, here are a few highlights:

On whether or not it's Adam Warlock's cocoon in The Collector's lair:

"You see what's been commonly known now as 'Adam Warlock's cocoon', which is based on Adam Warlock's cocoon, but I didn't actually intend to be Adam Warlock for all the people who think Adam Warlock escaped the explosion.  I'm not sure exactly how it's going to happen.  I do like the character of Adam Warlock, but I'm not sure that's where he start out or if he'll be in any of the next twelve Guardians of the Galaxy movies."

Where he is on the writing process of Guardians of the Galaxy 2:

"I have the whole story written out.  A pretty in-depth story."

Kevin Feige's reaction to his idea for Guardians of the Galaxy 2:

"I knew where I wanted to go with the sequel.  After the movie came out, I went and sat down with Kevin [Feige], and said 'What are we going to do?' and I said, 'This," and he said, 'Okay.'  And that was it."

On new characters in the sequel:

"Here's the thing: We'll meet some new characters in the next one, but I can't…I'm not going to tell anyone who those people are.  What else do we've got to give?  I don't want to spoil it now, two years before the movie comes out."
