Though his role is still not officially confirmed by Disney/Marvel, Kurt Russell has wrapped his portion of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Ever since Gunn mentioned that the sequel would be "a story about fathers," speculation quickly pointed to Russell playing Peter Quill/Star-Lord's father once the veteran was cast. As Screenrant reports, the leading guesses for Russell's character is either the Kree officer Mar-Vell or J'Son, leader of the Spartoi Empire. We're not even sure whether he's in the film in a heroic or villainous capacity yet, but now that he's done filming, perhaps we'll get some clues sooner than later.

Chris Pratt (Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Karen Gillan (Nebula), and Michael Rooker (Yondu) all return for the sequel, which also features Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as one of Yondu’s ravagers, and Elizabeth Debicki in a still mysterious role.

The creative team behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had this to say about Russell's performance on the film:
