When it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we’ll take any information we can get, though the latest update comes from a source we don’t typically hear from. That said, the intel could potentially reveal the film’s huge (and I mean that quite literally) villain. So, to be safe, stay away if you want to remain as spoiler free as possible.

According to Geek.com, sources close to production on the sequel say that Ego, The Living Planet, which is exactly what it sounds like, will make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. In the comics, Ego formed in the Black Galaxy, developing organ-like masses, including a brain, underneath its surface. With the abilities of consciousness, moving about space on its own, and using his “anti-bodies” to fight for him, Ego soon began thinking about his place in the universe which involved trying to take over galaxies.

In one story line, Ego had a battle with Thor, who defeated the planet by stunning its surface with thunderstorms. He also featured in plots that included the Fantastic Four, the Kree race, the Silver Surfer, Galactus, and — more importantly for the Guardians — Thanos (Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan).

For now, take this report with a grain of salt, but it’s an interesting development to think about. Director-writer James Gunn, who’s grown weary of the rumor mill, wrote on Facebook that he’s done addressing spoilery reports, so we’re likely not going to get an official answer until either the trailers start rolling out or we see the film in theaters on May 5, 2017. I suppose it’s not that farfetched to think a being like Ego could feature somehow, especially since Knowhere, The Collector’s home on the colonized, deceased head of a Celestial, was part of the first Guardians.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel will return for the sequel, while Kurt Russell is being eyed to play Star-Lord’s mystery dad.
