While we now have the release schedule for Marvel’s second wave of films, we might just happen to have an early logline for what may be their most ambitious project, Guardians of the Galaxy. Get your heaping spoon of salt ready to take with this news because screenwriter Chris McCoy was just hired a short time ago, with a previous draft turned in by Nicole Perlman. What we know for a certainty at this point is that the film will include Drax the Destroyer, Groot, StarLord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora, and that the film will release on August 1st, 2014. Hit the jump for the (possible) logline and more on Guardians of the Galaxy.
If this turns out to be total bullcrap, direct all of your vitriol over to the source at The Grid (and if it’s true, well, you can thank us for sharing it with you). Here’s the logline:
About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.
Not much to it, eh? Sounds like a combination of Green Lantern and Con-Air. I’m not too familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy storylines, but maybe this is on target? The only part of this that makes sense to me is the inclusion of a U.S. pilot (ie human) for audiences to have as an anchor. I still think the following cast of characters is going to be a tough, but not impossible, sell for mainstream audiences:
Drax The Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final scene tease); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien inter-galactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.
Keep an eye on this one as it develops and we’ll update accordingly.
