We can’t let Grudge Match be Robert De Niro’s final boxing movie. Sylvester Stallone gets the excellent Creed, and De Niro looks like he’s going to do well himself with the upcoming drama Hands of Stone. In the film, De Niro plays a trainer who worked with “Roberto Durán (Edgar Ramirez), the Panamanian fighter who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16 year‐old and retired in 2002 at the age of 50.” The film looks at Durán’s fight and rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond IV). As for the trailer, it’s impressive, and at the very least, looks far better than Grudge Match (not a difficult bar to clear, but I’ll take it).

Check out the Hands of Stone trailer below. The film opens August 26th, and also stars Ana de Armas, Ellen Barkin, and John Turturro.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hands of Stone:

HANDS OF STONE follows the life of Roberto Durán (Edgar Ramirez), the Panamanian fighter who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16 year‐old and retired in 2002 at the age of 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond) to capture the WBC welterweight title, but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in their November rematch, famously saying the words “no mas” (no more.)
