In HAPPYish, Steve Coogan stars as Thom Payne, a man who has turned 44 and wonders if he's depressed, or just has a "low joy ceiling." He's befuddled by social media buzzwords, and feels he's being left behind in a rapidly changing world. The half-hour comedy series, which will explore the concept of happiness, also stars Kathryn Hahn and Bradley Whitford, with Ellen Barkin, Carrie Preston, Molly Price and Andre Royo.

The trailer for HAPPYish shows Thom facing such problems as, "I'm worried the Viagra will interact with the Prozac now. That's my life. I'm either soft and happy, or I'm miserable and hard."

Rather than exploring happiness, it seems more like the show should be called "Mid-life Malaise." I love Coogan, and he's a man who has made a career on being sardonic, but the trailer feels tired and uninspired. I'm hoping it's just a bad edit (or editing around swearing), and the series is better than it seems. For now, the jokes aren't quite landing, and the show doesn't seem to have much more to it than one man whinging.

You can check it out for yourself below. HAPPYish premieres April 26th at 9:30 p.m. on Showtime.
