Just yesterday we reported that BBC2 was planning a film based on legendary director Alfred Hitchcock’s obsession with his The Birds star Tippi Hedren, and today we’ve got casting news on another Hitchcock movie currently in the works. Helen Mirren is apparently eyeing the role of Hitchcock’s wife in the drama Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho. The project has been in development for years with Anthony Hopkins attached the played the famed filmmaker, and now it looks like a production start date is finally looming. Hit the jump for more.alfred-hitchcock-psycho-imageBased on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello, the film tells the story of how everyone thought Hitchcock was crazy for wanting to make a horror movie at the pinnacle of his career. The director scrambled to find financing, shot the picture with his inexpensive TV crew, and soon after Psycho became a nationwide sensation. Crucial to the story is Hitchcock's relationship with his wife Alma Reville, who was a close collaborator on many of his films. Glee creator Ryan Murphy was previously attached to direct, but Sasha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) is now onboard to helm.In addition to Mirren’s involvement, Heat Vision reports that the project is in the process of moving from Paramount to Fox Searchlight. It’s spent four years in development at Paramount, so a move to Fox Searchlight would surely bode well for the flick. I love Hopkins as Hitch, and Mirren would make a fantastic addition. The report cautions that the dealmaking both for Mirren and the studio move isn’t finished yet, but an April production start is being eyed. Hopefully things work out, as I’ve been waiting for this one for quite some time.alfred-hitchcock-alma-reville-image
