We’ve got a few casting stories to share this evening.  First up, Helena Bonham Carter has been tapped to play the fairy godmother in Disney’s Cinderella redo, directed by Kenneth Branagh.  The godmother will have an expanded role in Branagh’s take on the story, as Carter will also appear as an elderly woman before she surprises the titular Cinderella and reveals herself to be the wish-granting fairy.  Lily James (Downton Abbey) won the lead role in the film, and she’ll star opposite Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as the Prince and Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.  Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey) and Holliday Granger (The Borgias) are in talks to play the nasty stepsisters.  This marks Carter's third time working with Disney, having starred in the studio’s Alice in Wonderland and the upcoming The Lone Ranger.

Hit the jump for casting news concerning Tim Burton’s next film and the villain in Dwayne Johnson’s passion project.

Additionally, Danny Huston is the latest addition to the cast of Tim Burton’s biopic Big Eyes.  The story focuses on the artistic coupling of Margaret (Amy Adams) and Walter (Christoph Waltz) Keane.  Walter became famous in the 1950s and 60s for paintings featuring saucer-eyed kids, though it was the shy Margaret who really did the work.  Margaret eventually tired of the misplaced credit, which led to a divorce and a heated court battle to prove authorship of the paintings.  Deadline reports that Huston is poised to join the ensemble, which also includes Jason Schwartzman and Krysten Ritter.

Though production is already well underway on director Brett Ratner’s new Hercules film, the pic’s villain has only just been cast.  Heat Vision reports that Kon-Tiki star Tobias Santelmann is set to play the baddie opposite Dwayne Johnson in the pic, as he'll portray a barbarian and revolutionary named Rhesus.  Hercules is slated for release on July 25, 2014 and also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, and Rebecca Ferguson.
