From the animation studio behind Bojack Horseman and Robot Chicken comes Hell and Back, a new R-rated animated comedy about a trio of friends who descend into the deepest pits of hell to rescue their friend, tangling with a variety of demons, legends and the devil himself along the way. Directed by Tom Gianas and Ross Shuman, the stop-motion film is backed by an strong voice cast including Mila Kunis, T.J. Miller and Michael Pena.

The film is set to arrive in theaters October 2nd and also features the voices of Susan Sarandon, Paul Scheer, Rob Riggle and Bob Odenkirk as Satan -- naturally. Check out the red band Hell and Back trailer below.

That's a pretty damn funny trailer. It's got a This is the End vibe, but without the self-flagellation and mean streak. It's goofy as, well, hell. Booking the film in time for a pre-Halloween release was a very smart play. This seems like exactly the kind of movie you want to watch during the Halloween season when it's not quite the time to break out the holiday classics, but you still want to get into the All Hallows' Eve vibe. Given the talent on board and the quality of the animation displayed in the trailer, you can bet I'll be giving it a watch.

Here's the official Hell and Back synopsis:

In the outrageous R rated animated comedy from the Animation studio that brought you “Robot Chicken,” “Triptank” and “Bojack Horseman,” three friends embark on a wayward journey into the deepest, darkest depths of hell to rescue one of their own.  While navigating their escape, they provoke a slew of misfit demons, a super sexy angel, infamous Greek legends, and the Devil himself; Hell has never been hotter!
