First announced in January in the eighth issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump, the anime adaptation of the popular horror-adventure shōnen manga Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku has finally gotten an official trailer that, in spite of having no dialogue, showcases studio MAPPA’s sensational animation style.

On December 18, on the second day of this year’s Jump Festa event, the new trailer, as well as a new visual teaser, were revealed along with the anime’s staff. The Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku anime is based on mangaka Yūji Kaku’s manga, whose most recent work Ayashimon was also highlighted in passing by the event’s panel. On January 25, after being serialized for three years, Jigokuraku was finalized with Chapter 127, and its thirteenth and final volume was launched on April 30.

The manga, set in Japan during the Edo period, tells the story of a cold and ruthless ninja called Gabimaru the Hollow who is an expert at assassination. After being betrayed by his fellow ninja, Gabimaru is sentenced to die, a fate he initially accepts as he is tired of the violent lifestyle he has led. every attempt at executing him ends in failure. Although he refuses to admit it, Gabimaru does not want to die because he wishes to come back to his wife. So, Asaemon Sagiri the Decapitator devises a plan to give the convict one last chance. She wants Gabimuaru to go on a mission to recover an elixir that grants eternal life to whoever uses it in exchange for his absolution from his death sentence. However, this island, called Hell’s Paradise, is full of mysteries and strange things and Gabimaru is not the only one looking to acquire the immortality elixir.

The Jigokuraku anime will be directed by Kaori Makita, with character design by Akitsugu Hisagi and music composition by Yoshiaki Dewa. As has been mentioned, MAPPA is handling the animation while TWIN ENGINE handles production.

As of yet, there is no precise release date for Jigokuraku but it has been set to premiere sometime in 2022. Check out the trailer and poster below:
