Final Countdown to Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice

Schnepp and his crew of honorary Schweaties, John Campea, Robert Meyer Burnett and Umberto ‘El Mayimbe’ Gonzalez join the panel today to discuss all the superhero news that broke in the past week.

First up, of course, is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which everyone wanted to discuss because it opens, finally, THIS MONTH. It is the first time, the panel mentioned, that we can now say there is a movie with Batman AND Superman in it, together, opening this month. The final countdown has started and with it so has the marketing blitz. Schnepp mentioned the new TV Spots that are dropping featuring a direct quote from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns which has everyone excited. And based on some of the recent ticketing information, all the rumors aside, the panel believes Batman V Superman will open huge, maybe even closer to $200 million.

Gambit Has Been Pulled from the Release Schedule

With the big gladiator match up movie out of the way, the panel moves on to discuss the latest news out of 20th Century Fox – the removal of the Gambit movie from the schedule. Seeing that Fox has removed the movie altogether, the panel wondered about the reasons why with most everyone convinced it had more to do with the timing and status of the development of the movie rather than outright cancelling the movie. It seemed obvious to everyone that the movie needs more time to tinker with all facets – the script, casting, budget, etc. In its place, Schnepp and the panel speculated on what two “unknown” Marvel movies were dated in the new release, not in place of Gambit but in addition to… Some consider X-Force a forgone conclusion seeing as Deadpool continues to kill it at the box office. The other date seems to be a lock for Deadpool 2. The panel doesn’t believe Gambit is done, not by a long shot, and they expect to hear more news on it very soon – including the confirmation of Deadpool 2 and X-Force.

X-Force Movie Confirmed?

Speaking of which, this led to talk on X-Force with Schnepp saying the screenwriters of Deadpool have basically confirmed they are working on an X-Force movie that will, in fact, feature Deadpool, along with Cable and Domino. With both of these rumors heating up, coupled with the box office success of Deadpool, the panel is expecting the official announcements to be coming soon.

Games of Thrones’ Finn Jones Cast as Iron Fist

Next it was on to the other big news in Marvel, on the Netflix/Streaming side of things and that is the casting of Game of Thrones’ Finn Jones as Iron Fist, Danny Rand. Everyone on the panel was excited in theory, with El Mayimbe commenting that he did wish they would have gone with someone non-white. But everyone did mention the fine line these shows and movies are walking when it comes to their casting. The panel has a “wait and see” attitude with this one and it doesn’t take away from the idea of having, finally, all the Defenders cast for their inevitable team up.

Daredevil Season 2 Trailer With Elektra

A nice segue into the panel’s thoughts on the latest season 2 Daredevil trailer. Because it was all about Elektra, with many discussing how great the character looked in the new trailer. It led to a long discussion on how well Netflix and Marvel are doing with their “street level” superheroes and how perfect Jon Bernthal looks as The Punisher. Next, the panel wondered how much business the season 2 series will give to Batman v Superman as the streaming service will be making the new season available the weekend before Batman v Superman. In the end, everyone thinks it won’t be that big of a deal as fans will turn up in droves for Batman v Superman and then they will go home and binge on Daredevil.

Minor Mutations

  • Liev Schreiber back for Wolverine 3?
  • Bill Sienkiewicz Batman print stolen
  • Deadpool writers confirm Deadpool in X-Force
  • Brand new X-Men Apocalypse trailer coming soon
  • Jimmy Kimmel’s hilarious cut scene from Batman v Superman

Flashback: Superman Returns (2006)

A loving homage to Richard Donner’s original Superman series. Directed by Bryan Singer and written by Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris the movie has Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) plotting to destroy Superman once and for all when the Man of Steel (Brandon Routh) returns after a long absence to a much-changed world. Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with her life, and society has learned to survive without him. Superman must find a way to reconnect with her and find his place in a world that may no longer need him.

Spotlight: Adam Strange

Adam Strange is the human champion of the alien planet Rann, an archaeologist who fights monsters using a jet pack and ray gun. Because of the massive amount of time he spends on Rann, he has formed a family there with his wife Alanna and daughter Aleea. His mentor is Alanna's father Sardath, Rann's greatest scientist. He has been a member of the Justice League, R.E.B.E.L.S. and Seven Soldiers of Victory. Adam Strange was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, first appearing in Showcase #17. (1958)
