20th Century Fox has released a new Hidden Figures trailer. The film tells the little-known true story of the brilliant African American NASA women whose work was crucial to one of our nation’s greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth. Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae star as Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson respectively, whose calculations were crucial to NASA’s space program, but who also faced discrimination both as women and as African Americans.

While the film will open wide in January, it’s getting a limited released next month so it can qualify for Oscar consideration, and based on this trailer, it could have a serious shot in the awards race. It looks like a feel-good story that’s also incredibly timely, and it’s packed with talented actors. I hope I get to see this one sooner rather than later because I love this cast (especially with Henson as one of the leads), and this is definitely a story worth telling.

Check out the Hidden Figures trailer below. The film opens in limited release on December 25th before expanding on January 6th. It also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, Glen Powell, and Kimberly Quinn.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hidden Figures:

HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)-brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.
