Apple comedy series High Desert has signed on an additional six cast members, Variety reports. The new cast, set to star alongside lead actress Patricia Arquette, is to include Matt Dillon (Crash), Rupert Friend (Death of Stalin), Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, Fargo), Bernadette Peters (Mozart in the Jungle, The Good Fight), and Christine Taylor (Search Party, Zoolander).

The 30-minute episode series is centered around Peggy (Arquette), an addict, who is searching for a new beginning following her mother’s passing with whom she was cohabitating in the small Californian town of Yucca Valley. Peggy decides to make a big jump in life by becoming a private investigator.

Dillon is signed on to play Denny, Peggy’s ex, a charming parolee that can’t help but use the people in his life for his own benefit. Friend will portray Guru Bob, a one-time local anchorman, who rebuilds himself as a mystic desert personality following a trauma. Opia will star opposite Arquette as Peggy’s best friend. Engaged to an ER doctor and newly stepping into the role of stepmother, Opia’s character will be holding onto a secret of her own.

Garrett will play Bruce, another private investigator whose business is on a downward spiral and hesitantly hires Peggy. Peters has been hired on for a recurring role as Peggy’s mother, Rosalyn. Taylor will also join the cast in a recurring role as Peggy’s well-organized sister, Dianne, who tries to help Peggy point her life in the right direction.

In addition to starring, Arquette lends her name to the series as an executive producer. Nancy Fichman, Katie Ford, and Jennifer Hoppe serve as writers and executive producers. Jay Roach is on the bill to direct all 8 episodes of the series and also executive produce. Ben Stiller, Nicky Weinstock, and Jacki Cohn via Red Hour Films will all also serve as executive producers.

High Desert isn’t the first time Arquette and Stiller will team up on an Apple series. The duo will also be working together in a new drama series entitled Severance, in which Stiller will direct and executive produce and Arquette will executive produce and star. In the past, the two worked together on the limited Showtime series, Escape at Dannemora. Through her work on Escape at Dannemora, Arquette won both a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Nomination. Stiller also snagged an Emmy nomination for best director for a limited series.

At this time, the heartfelt comedy series does not have a release date.
