Fox just released the first full trailer an a new poster for Hitman: Agent 47, the second attempt at a proper adaptation of the popular video game property. Whereas the teaser simply gave us a look at a few set-pieces, to say nothing of our first glance at Rupert Friend as the titular genetically-engineered killer, the full trailer gives us a sense of how the story will unfold. The basic set-up seems to have its roots in something like the Bourne series, with Friend's destructive cue-ball seemingly striking vengeance against corporate and governmental forces who want his talents to create an all-powerful army. In his charge would be Hannah Ware's Katia, a fellow agent who has yet to unlock her training as of yet and who is nearly taken in by Zachary Quinto's nefarious John Smith.

The trailer boasts a series of eye-grabbing action sequences, from Friend's anti-hero flying a helicopter into a corporate office building to sending a series of would-be captors to the great beyond via a giant wind turbine. It's also good to see Friend, a magnetic presence in Showtime's Homeland, get a chance at a proper lead role in a major franchise like this, and the character seems to be a perfect fit for Friend, whose character on the Showtime series is similarly brooding and lethal. And considering this is based on a script co-written by Skip Woods, the man behind Sabotage, Swordfish, and A Good Day to Die Hard, one can thankfully expect the action to be front and center with nonsensical exposition and story taking a back seat to all the fireworks. The film is directed by first-timer Aleksander Bach, written by Woods and Michael Finch, and features a cast that also includes Ciarán HindsThomas Kretschmann, and Emilio Rivera

Hitman: Agent 47 will be released August 21st nationwide.
