Warner Bros. has released the first Hot Pursuit trailer for director Anne Fletcher’s (The Proposal) upcoming buddy comedy. The two-hander stars Reese Witherspoon as a by-the-book cop who is tasked with protecting the “sexy and outgoing” widow (Sofia Vergara) of a drug boss. The two race through Texas as they’re pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

On first glance this seems like a fairly standard mainstream comedy, and is more than little reminiscent of Midnight Run. It's too early to tell, at least personally, how this will land. I like the running gag about Vergara's age and Witherspoon's height, but I'm also hoping they saved the best stuff for the actual movie or else they could be in some trouble. Witherspoon deserves to have some fun after Wild though. Watch the debut Hot Pursuit trailer below. The film also stars Robert Kazinsky, Mike Birbiglia, and the always welcome John Carrol Lynch. It opens in theaters on May 8th.
