How I Met Your Dad, a spinoff of How I Met Your Mother (although it stars none of the same characters), seemed like a surefire pickup for the fall season.  Despite the controversial final season and finale, HIMYM was a huge hit for CBS, and with the same creators on board for HIMYD along with a cast featuring Greta Gerwig (who would also be a writer on the show), many assumed that the series would be hitting the airwaves this fall.  But in a surprise turn, CBS has decided to pass on How I Met Your Dad.  According to Vulture's Joe Adalian on Twitter, CBS wasn't happy with the pilot, and wanted 20th Century Fox TV to reshoot it.  However, the studio didn't want to reshoot it only to have it turned down again, so they demanded a series pickup in return.  CBS refused, and now 20th Century Fox is free to shop the show to other networks.

You can look at CBS' refusal one of two ways: 1) the pilot was so bad that not even CBS wanted to pick it up; or 2) It was better than the lowest-common-denominator sitcoms CBS usually cranks out, and they didn't know what to do with it.  Either way, showrunners Craig Thomas, Carter Bays, and Emily Spivey are right in their belief that the show has a pedigree even if fans were unhappy with HIMYM's conclusion.  I wouldn't be surprised to see HIMYD end up on a different network.  The question now becomes, which network wants it, especially now that they've set their 2014-2015 lineups?
