Lionsgate has released the first clip from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  The story finds President Snow (Donald Sutherland) trying to crush a budding rebellion that was ignited by Katniss’ (Jennifer Lawrence) actions in the previous film, as the 75th Hunger Games (aka Quarter Quell) forces past victors to compete against each other.  You can see from the clip that new director Francis Lawrence has taken a decidedly different than The Hunger Games helmer Gary Ross, at least as far as the drama scenes are concerned.  Where Ross used a more naturalistic approach in District 12, Lawrence has gone with a steadier camera and a cold color palette.  It will be interesting to see how he approaches the rest of Panem.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.  Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
