If you've ever wondered if John Travolta can pull off a full back tattoo, boy have I got good news for you. Lionsgate and Saban Films have released the first trailer for I Am Wrath (via ComingSoon) and Travolta's big ol' back tat is just one of the unexpected pleasures that lie within. See also: Christopher Meloni going berzerker mode on a bunch of bad guys.

Directed by Chuck Russell, I Am Wrath (which is, by the way, what Travolta's exquisite ink says) stars Travolta as Stanley, an unemployed everyman who goes on a quest for bloody revenge after corrupt police officers fail to bring his wife's murderer to justice. With the help of his old friend Dennis (Meloni) and a mysterious background that makes him super good at killing and stuff, Stanley finds purpose in exacting revenge on the criminal's who destroyed his life. Travolta and Meloni are Stanley and Dennis, revengers. This is gold, people.

Also starring Rebecca De Mornay, Amanda Schull, Sam Trammell, and Luis Da Silva Jr, I Am Wrath arrives on VOD April 15th before opening on theaters on May 13th. Check out the new trailer below.

The "grieving man on a revenge mission subgenre" has always been trope heavy and rarely been subtle or innovative, but I Am Wrath is noticeably leaning into some stylistic elements of another recent hit revenger. Whether it was originally designed to, or simply edited to for marketing, I Am Wrath is definitely cribbing on John Wick's vibrant gun-slinging aesthetic, but that's not a bad thing. Hell, iIf John Wick ushers in an era of wildly entertaining revenge pics, that's a wonderful thing.

This is the director behind The Mask and The Blob remake, not to mention the most delightful Nightmare on Elm Street film, so there's a chance I Am Wrath could be great fun. But this is also the director behind Bless the Child and The Scorpion King, so there's a chance it could be pretty bad fun, too.  Point is, watching John Travolta and Chrstopher Meloni team up to take down the criminal underworld is probably going to be pretty fun.

Here’s the official synopsis for I Am Wrath:

Unemployed engineer Stanley Hill (Travolta) witnesses the brutal murder of his wife Vivian (Rebecca De Mornay, TV’s Jessica Jones) who was attacked by thugs in a parking garage. When Detective Gibson (Sam Trammell, True Blood) and other corrupt police officers are unable and unwilling to bring the killers to justice, Stanley turns to his old friend Dennis (Christopher Meloni, Man of Steel, TVs Law & Order) and decides to take matters into his own hands. It is only then that Stanley and Dennis are found to have a mysterious past that, until now, they kept very well hidden.

As they wreak their revenge, those involved in the cover up realize that Stanley and Dennis are more dangerous than they could have ever imagined…
