Roland Emmerich's been trying to get an Independence Day sequel off the ground for many years, but the story we're going to see on screen in June is actually relatively new. Despite all the talk about ID Forever Part I and Part II, eventually, Emmerich had enough and opted to bring in two budding screenwriters to get a fresh take, James Woods and Nicolas Wright. Four weeks later, they came up with the idea that would finally get the long awaited sequel into production.

Back in June 2015, I got the chance to sit down with Emmerich on the set of Independence Day: Resurgence to talk about how he broke story, how The Hunger Games influenced the film, what advice he'd give to folks to survive a real alien invasion and more. You can hear about it all in the video interview below. Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters on June 24th and stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Sela Ward, Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher.
