In Independence Day: Resurgence, it’s been years since the first alien invasion came and went, and humanity is preparing for a return sweep by utilizing recovered tech from the battle. As teased by the latest clips and TV spots, mankind is still unprepared for what’s coming next — and we have a good look at one of these new and improved beasts from another galaxy.
Fox released a batch of marketing material, including one TV spot that shows a big, bad, nasty alien smacking down fighter planes with its many, many tentacles. The look is on par with what we’ve seen from the aliens in Roland Emmerich’s first film from 1996, but this guy has clearly been binging on the otherworldly steroids.
Two other clips show more of the return of Dr. Brackish Okun (Brent Spiner), as well as the new defensive crew consisting of David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) and new character Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth). Okun was thought to be dead after what happened in the first film, but he’s very much alive as he’s shown toiling in his laboratory with his self-dubbed Brackish Okun Laser. Meanwhile, the world has turned upside down — quite literally — and Levinson & co. have to think on their toes.
The film also returns Bill Pullman as now former President Whitmore and Vivica A. Fox as Jasmine, while the newcomers are rounded out by Jessie T. Usher, Maika Monroe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sela Ward.
Check out the clips and TV spots below, followed by a slew of images. Independence Day: Resurgence is scheduled for release on June 24.
