Today, we're pleased to premiere the IMAX art for The Divergent Series: Insurgent, which hits theaters March 20th. The art release accompanies the announcement that Lionsgate has released the Insurgent 'Shatter Reality' Virtual Reality experience across VR platforms including Samsung MilkVR, Android and iOS.
What's more, Insurgent is the first major motion picture to team up with Google Cardboard. Today only, anyone who purchases an Insurgent ticket on Fandango will receive an Insurgent branded Cardboard as a gift with purchase. Additionally, Lionsgate has partnered with IMAX and REGAL Cinemas exclusively to distribute the Insurgent branded cardboards in all Regal IMAX Theatres starting Thursday, March 19 while supplies last.
For those who aren't familiar, Google Cardboard is an affordable Virtual Reality alternative that allows you to enjoy VR experiences from your smartphone. The Insurgent 'Shatter Reality' experience puts users in the role of a Divergent captured by the power-hungry Erudite leader, Jeanine (Kate Winslet). 'Shatter Reality' allows you to experience the Divergent universe in 3D as Jeanine subjects you to a series of mental stimulations that transport you across various "fearscapes". For those of you who don't have a VR capable device, the 4D experience is touring through Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin and San Francisco.

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
“Insurgent – Shatter Reality” is available on Samsung's GearVR powered by the Galaxy Note 4, via the MilkVR platform and in an exclusive 4D experience touring through New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin and San Francisco, prior to going live across all platforms and app stores. Fans will also be able to view the experience on Samsung GearVR during the March 7-8 weekend at select Best Buy stores across the U.S. In the experience, users take the role of “Divergent” members of society in the film, who are captured by Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) and are subjected to a series of mental “simulations” to determine the full extent of their divergence -- transporting them to fearscapes from a crumbling Chicago skyscraper to a fast-approaching locomotive.
