With Netflix and Marvel's Luke Cage now available in its entirety for your viewing pleasure, the streaming giant and comics company are looking ahead to their next superhero series: Iron Fist. A new teaser video, which confirms the March 17, 2017 premiere date (Happy St. Patrick's / Shou-Lao the Undying day!), also hints at the mystical aspects of the character's comic book backstory and the origins of his incredible power. Without giving any of that story away, let me just say that this teaser video has more meaning that simply a cute little wisp of smoke that announces the series' premiere date.

Finn Jones stars as the title character, a.k.a. Danny Rand, alongside Jessica HenwickLewis Tan, and what's certain to be a few cameo appearances from the other Marvel/Netflix series over the show's 13 episodes. And now that Daredevil has enjoyed two seasons, and with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage prepped for possible second seasons of their own, once Iron Fist hits the scene it's all about uniting these heroes under The Defenders banner. I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing how this foursome comes together and what villainy these heroes will be hired to fight. It's an exciting time for Marvel TV!

Check out the teaser video for Iron Fist below:

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

We've seen Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage deal with numerous enemies single-handedly, and this image suggests Iron Fist will be in good company. (Perhaps the Defenders will have a friendly competition as to who can rack up the highest body count in a hallway fight.) What's more interesting than the pile of bodies behind Danny Rand, however, is the silhouettes of people standing far in the background. Are they merely observing the fight? Waiting to join it? Or testing Rand's abilities? We'll find out next March!
