A few casting updates, hot off the press:

  • The Hunger Games competitor Isabelle Fuhrman will star in David Gordon Green‘s Suspiria remake
  • Oliver Cooper will follow up Project X, his feature debut, with a role opposite Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake in Runner Runner

suspiria isabelle fuhrmanVariety says Furhman will play the young lead, named Suzie in the 1977 original.  In Dario Argento‘s Suspiria, “[Suzie] travels to Europe to attend a world-renowned school, only to learn that the academy is a front for a coven of witches.”  For Green, this is a return to his dramatic roots after a few years of diminishing returns in comedy: fresh Pineapple Express, untethered Your Highness, uninspired The Sitter.  Fuhrman is a proven quantity in the genre, rising to fame as one of the few child actors who could pull off Orphan.  She is currently filming After Earth with M. Night Shyamalan and co-star Jaden Smith.

In Runner Runner, Timberlake plays a Princeton student who, in the face of student loans, dives into the world of online gambling.  Cooper will play “a twentysomething Ivy League computer nerd who gets hired along with [Timberlake] to work for Ivan Block (Affleck), an online gambling billionaire who works out of Costa Rica and whose business is even less legitimate than it first seems.”  Cooper told EW, “He’s kind of the young guy in this crazy world.  He really represents the innocence of someone who would get into gambling.”  Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) will direct; Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Rounders) wrote the script.

According to Variety‘s latest report, the Bin Laden project still doesn’t have an official title, but the most recent working title we heard is Zero Dark Thirty.  Bigelow is reuniting with The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal to tell the story of the  hunt for Bin Laden.  The full, manly ensemble now includes Edgerton, Grillo, Jason Clarke, Edgar Ramirez, Mark Strong, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Nash Edgerton, and Harold Perrineau Jr.; Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Ehle add a welcome feminine touch to the cast.
