A billboard in Times Square today has revealed that the first trailer for the highly-anticipated It Chapter Two will arrive on Thursday. The follow-up continues the adaptation of the Stephen King book, this time picking up with the Losers Club 27 years later, when they’re all now adults and must return to Derry to thwart Pennywise once again. Director Andy Muschietti returns and he assembled a top-notch ensemble that consists of James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, James Ranson as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stanley Uris, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise/It. The story has kids from the first IT returning for flashbacks as their adult counterparts struggle to remember key aspects of their time in Derry.

It’s not surprising that the marketing for It Chapter Two is about to start in earnest. We’re entering the summer movie season, and it’s time to cash in on the horror hit. The first It was one of the biggest horror hits of all-time, pulling $700 million off a budget of just $35 million. While the marketing for the first movie was shaky at first, the trailer eventually started to click and then positive word of mouth carried the movie for weeks afterwards. However, now Chapter Two has to wrestle with bigger expectations with an audience hoping for even scarier moments.

The first teaser trailer for It was surprisingly effective, and I’m betting the trailer for Chapter Two won’t have any problem hooking people, especially with big stars like McAvoy and Chastain. But we’ll just have to wait until Thursday to find out and get our first look at the highly anticipated sequel.

Come back on Thursday to check out the trailer. It Chapter Two opens September 6, 2019.
