‘IT Chapter Two’ Trailer Returns to Derry For More Small Town Terror

     May 9, 2019

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for IT Chapter Twothe sequel to director Andy Muschietti‘s 2017 coming of age tale of killer clowns and sailboats gone awry. Set 27 years after the first outing, this film features a Losers Club all grown up. James McAvoy stars as Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain takes on the role of Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader will play Richie Tozer, James Ransone will portray Eddie Kaspbrak, Jay Ryan will tackle Ben Hanscom, and Isaiah Mustafa is on board as Mike Hanlon.

And because evil is constant in both Derry and these films, Hollywood’s go-to boogeyman Bill Skarsgard reprises his role of Pennywise the dancing clown, among other atrocities.

This trailer works incredibly well by leading off with a scene of Beverly talking with an old woman who isn’t all that she appears to be. It looks like Muschietti has lost none of the pop of the original which made 2017’s IT such an enjoyable roller coaster. I also like that the opening of this trailer hammers on how scary this movie is supposed to be rather than just leaning on a bunch of Pennywise iconography (although this trailer certainly has its fair share of balloons). Part of me almost doesn’t want to see any more marketing for this movie so that it can scare me out of my wits when it arrives in September.

Written by Gary Dauberman (IT, Annabelle: Creation)—and featuring original Losers Wyatt Oleff, Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Chosen Jacobs, and Jack Dylan Grazer reprising their roles through flashbacks—the film hits theaters on September 6, 2019.
