The heist thriller Man on a Ledge took several major steps toward quality today.  We learned earlier that Summit Entertainment is in talks with Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) to star opposite Sam Worthington.  (Cool.)  Now Jamie Bell (Jumper) has signed on for a role, in a more official capacity than Mackie.  (Double cool.)  The latest rumor suggests Amy Adams (Julie & Julia) is interested in a key role.  (So... very... cool.)

Ledge marks the narrative feature debut of Asger Leth, best known for the documentary Ghosts of Cité Soleil.  Hit the jump for what we know about the plot of the film, plus details on what roles Worthington, Bell, Mackie, and Adams would play.

Heat Vision describes the premise like so:

The story begins when an ex-cop-turned-con threatens to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop. The NYPD dispatches a female police psychologist to talk him down but, unbeknownst to the cops on the scene, the suicide attempt is a cover for a massive diamond heist.

According to Deadline, Bell would play the titular man on a ledge, a cop jailed for a crime he didn't commit.  When he's let out to attend his father's funeral, Bell makes his way up to the ledge to threaten suicide.  Worthington plays Bell's brother, a thief planning a jewelry store heist across the street at the time of the would-be jump.  Should he sign on, Mackie would play Bell's ex-partner.  And Adams is eying the role of  "female police psychologist."

All due respect to Mr. Worthington, but before today, Man on a Ledge didn't have that must-see feel to it.  Bell always brings something to the table.  And Mackie left his mark on The Hurt Locker, an impressive feat in the shadow of Jeremy Renner's performance.  But if Adams acts on her interest?  Oh, man... She battles daily with Christina Hendricks for "Brendan's Favorite Hollywood Redhead."
