Jay Baruchel – Exclusive Video Interview

     May 29, 2007

I’ve been a fan of Jay Baruchel since he was on Judd Apatow’s short lived TV show “Undeclared”. That was the show about going to college and Jay was the lead. If you’ve never seen the show I strongly suggest getting the box set and watching… you’ll love it.

But onto why we are here.

This weekend, here in Los Angeles, there was a “Star Wars” celebration and the reason it was held was to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of “Star Wars.” The highlights of the show were the premiering of some footage from the new “Clone Wars” CGI show and the showing of footage from “Fanboys.” They even had the cast in attendance to talk about their roles.

“Fanboys” is about four friends who travel across the country to try and see Episode One early. The reason is one of them is dying of cancer and won’t make it till opening day. And while you think the movie might focus on that issue, for the most part it’s a comedy about loving “Star Wars” and making the most of the time you have with your friends.

The film takes place in 1998 and there are plenty of songs and references to the year all throughout the movie. Awhile ago I saw a test screening and thought it was great, that’s one of the reason’s I’ve been promoting the hell out it on Collider. I think if you’ve ever loved “Star Wars” you’ll fall for this movie pretty hard.

In the next hour or two I’ll be posting a video interview with Kyle Newman, the director of the film. I’ll also be putting online the entire 24 minute press conference that they held for the media and you can watch the entire event.

Until then, here is a short interview I did with Jay. And not only is Jay in “Fanboys”… he’s also in Judd Apatow’s new movie “Knocked Up,” which comes out this Friday. I promise you’ll love both movies.

And while I was interviewing Jay one of the producers came up to him and said that the trailer will be premiering on “Superbad,” which comes out August 17th. So for all of you who’ve emailed me asking when you’ll be able to see the trailer… you can stop.

Jay talks about all the normal things with one of the highlights being a new project that he’s in called “Tropic Thunder” – which stars Ben Stiller, Tom Cruise, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. and more.
