Jeff Goldblum is going from death by alien invasion in Independence Day: Resurgence to death by Ragnarok in the third Thor movie. After Marvel announced the roster of talent joining Chris Hemsworth in the upcoming film, Goldblum dished on what fans can expect from his role as The Grandmaster.

The announcement from Marvel Studios described the character simply as “eccentric,” but the actor went into further detail during an interview with Empire magazine (via ComicBook.com).

He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, “I can do that, I’ll bet!” I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching. [Director Taika Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!

Here’s hoping this will be Goldblum at his Goldblum-iest.

The Grandmaster of the comics is one of the Elders of the Universe, which makes him among the first to evolve after the Big Bang. His main passion is games. He spent most of his life studying games of different worlds and devised his own unique tournaments and contests. According to a recent report, Thor: Ragnarok will incorporate the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics by seeing Bruce Banner’s giant, green rage monster and the Asgardian warrior participating in The Grandmaster’s games.

While plot details are still vague, we know a lot about what to expect from the cast. Cate Blanchett plays “the mysterious and powerful new villain” Hela, known in the comics as the mistress of the realm of the dead. Elsewhere, Tessa Thompson (Creed) plays Valkyrie and Karl Urban (Star Trek Beyond) plays Skurge, while Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins reprise their roles of Loki and Odin.

Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017.
