Today's casting roundup runs the gamut from rainbow-colored fantasy to the stark reality of AIDS:

• Jennifer Garner is in talks to star opposite Matthew McConaughey in The Dallas Buyer's Club.  McConaughey stars as a man with AIDS who survives by smuggling medication into the U.S. to for himself and other patients.
• Willow Shields, Karl Urban, and Leehom Wang are set to star in The Wonder 3D, which follows three kids who find the end of a rainbow... with unexpected consequences.

The Dallas Buyer's Club is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), a heterosexual man who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986.  He was given six months to live, but instead survived six years on the smuggled medication.  Gael Garcia Bernal recently joined the cast as another AIDS patient, right as Hilary Swank dropped out.  Deadline says Garner is now in talks to take on the role of Dr. Eve Saks, the female lead.  Jean-Marc Vallée (C.R.A.Z.Y.) will direct from a script by Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack.

Per Variety's report on The Wonder, once the three classmates step inside the rainbow, "it takes them away to China where local authorities and a mysterious organization are soon after them."  Those were not the words I was expecting to follow "As they step inside the rainbow..."  Add Urban as a "consul who delivers unexpected help," and I'm in.  Robert Sidaway, Iain Brown, Steve Sachs, Chun-Yi Yuehare, James M. Vernon, and Ashok Amitraj will produce.  Pixomondo, the Oscar-winning VFX company who worked on Hugo, will handle the 3D special effects.
