Jennifer Lawrence is coming to the end of her reign as Katniss Everdeen — and even perhaps Mystique — but she’s showing no signs of slowing down. She continues her fruitful relationship with director David O. Russell in his next Joy-ful pic, she stars opposite Chris Pratt in the sci-fi film Passengers, and she has projects for Darren Aronofsky and Steven Spielberg lined up. Now, much like A-list actors like Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, Lawrence has been bitten by the directing bug.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly for their big Entertainer of the Year cover feature, J-Law revealed her desire to add “director” to her long list of credits. “I have wanted to direct as long as I’ve wanted to act,” she told the magazine. “I just don’t talk about it because I’d rather just do it.” This new venture might even happen sooner than later, as she said she’s already “signed on” to helm a project called Project Delirium. She said:
"It’s based on this article about mental warfare in the ’60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong. It’s funny, I’ve wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that. If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn’t have been ready. Now I actually feel ready."
We wouldn’t bet against Lawrence. After all, she’s proven time and again with her Oscar wins and nominations, and box-office dollars that the odds are in her favor. And she already added screenwriter to her resume as she’s working with her new bff Amy Schumer on a comedy. Lawrence described it as a story about a put-together woman (Schumer) who wants to fulfill a lifelong dream of a becoming a flight attendant, while her sister (Lawrence) is just a mess.
At this point, Lawrence has accomplished so much and earned the respect of so many people in the industry that she can essentially do whatever she wants. Keep on truckin’, Girl on Fire!
