Marvel has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix series Jessica Jones, and this time the focus shifts to the villain. In Marvel’s follow-up series to Daredevil, Krysten Ritter stars as the titular Jessica Jones, a former superhero who now works as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City. This teaser has David Tennant providing creepy voiceover as Zebediah Kilgrave, aka the Purple Man, who seems to be taunting Jones by telling her he knows her super-secret.

In the comics, Kilgrave had the power of mind control and forced Jones to aid his criminal schemes after subjecting her to a serious bout of psychological torture (for more on the Purple Man, read Evan’s comics primer). Judging by this teaser, Kilgrave may be the reason for Jones’ self-imposed retirement, and also an object of obsession as she attempts to hunt him down. If that’s the case, that provides a really strong story backbone for this first season, off of which showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and her writers can grow other, more personal and contained storylines.

Of course this is only the beginning, as Jessica Jones will be followed on Netflix by Season 2 of Daredevil, which will be followed by Luke CageIron Fist, and finally a team-up Defenders miniseries. It's all part of Marvel's plan for the small screen, and if Daredevil can get a second season, who's to say Jessica Jones won't also continue should it be a similar success. So strap on your seatbelts, folks. We're just gettin' started.

Check out the new teaser trailer below. The series also stars Mike Colter, Carrie-Anne Moss, Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval. All episodes of Jessica Jones will be released on Netflix on November 20th.
