Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, and Sharon Stone Join LOVELACE

     December 6, 2011

Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, and Sharon Stone are set to join the cast of Lovelace.  Amanda Seyfried stars as Linda Boreman, aka porn star Linda Lovelace.  The biopic follows Lovelace “through the production of Deep Throat, her abusive relationship with Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard) and eventual spearheading of the feminist anti-pornography movement.”  According to Variety, Temple, Stone, and Bentley will play Lovelace’s best friend, mother, and second husband, respectively.

Andy Bellin (Trust) adapted the screenplay from The Complete Linda Lovelace, a biography by Eric Danville.  Hit the jump for more background on the story.

linda-lovelaceReleased in 1972, Deep Throat is almost certainly the most famous pornographic film of all time.  Boreman later claimed that she did not consent to the acts you see in Deep Throat—that instead she was coerced by abusive husband Traynor with “an M-16 rifle at her head.”  Boreman wrote:

“When in response to his suggestions I let him know I would not become involved in prostitution in any way and told him I intended to leave, [Traynor] beat me up physically and the constant mental abuse began. I literally became a prisoner, I was not allowed out of his sight, not even to use the bathroom, where he watched me through a hole in the door. He slept on top of me at night, he listened to my telephone calls with a .45 automatic eight shot pointed at me. I was beaten physically and suffered mental abuse each and every day thereafter. He undermined my ties with other people and forced me to marry him on advice from his lawyer.”

There’s more to that quote at Wikipedia if you care to read it, but I advise against any deeper exploration.  It is an ugly story.  Despite my fondness for Seyfried—and also because of my fondness for Seyfried—I doubt I can muster up the spirit to ever see Lovelace.

Or am I overreacting?  Is this inherently any more depressing than Boogie Nights?
