Hold on to your butts, folks. Although it’s been nearly 15 years since the last entry in the Jurassic Park franchise hit theaters, the sequel/semi-reboot Jurassic World is having a killer opening weekend at the box office. The film was initially projected to score around $100 million, but projections have continued to rise in recent weeks as people from all over the globe find themselves compelled by a mixture of nostalgia, Chris Pratt adoration, and dinosaur spectacle to seek the movie out opening weekend. Director Colin Trevorrow’s film raked in a massive $82.8 million on Friday alone, which gives it the third biggest opening day of all time, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

The movie is now headed for an opening weekend gross anywhere between $180 and $200+ million, which means it’s on track to have the third highest grossing weekend ever, behind only The Avengers movies. It’s pretty much guaranteed to surpass Iron Man 3’s $174 million opening to take the #3 spot, but if it cracks $191 million it could hit #2. Is The Avengers’ $207 million record out of reach?

Whatever you think of the film itself, this is all wildly impressive given that the IP has been movie-dormant for over a decade. But Universal has done a wonderful job of keeping the Jurassic Park brand alive all these years, and fans clearly turned out in droves to check out the latest entry. Moreover, between Jurassic World, Pitch Perfect 2, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Furious 7—the fourth highest grossing film of all time—Universal Pictures is having a banner 2015.

One thing is certain right now: the Jurassic franchise is back in a big way, and you can expect Jurassic Park 5 in theaters sooner rather than later.

Elsewhere at the box office, Paul Feig's wonderful comedy Spy held up quite nicely opposite the dinosaurs, pulling in $4.7 million, while San Andreas came in third with $3.1 million. Check out Friday's Top 5 below, and look for the full weekend box office report tomorrow.
