This week was poised to act as the big unveiling of Universal’s Jurassic World trailer, but then Disney had to go ahead and announce a Friday debut for the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. No matter, Universal moved the release of its dino-infused sequel teaser up a couple of days, giving us our first look at director Colin Trevorrow’s take on the Jurassic Park universe this morning. Universal released a handful of new images from the film earlier as well, but we’ve gone ahead and taken screengrabs of some of the more interesting/notable shots from the trailer and compiled them in one convenient location for you perusing pleasure.
Check out over 20 images from the Jurassic World trailer after the jump. The film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, and Judy Greer. Jurassic World opens in theaters on June 12, 2015.
Obviously there is still much work to be done on the film’s visual effects, but I have to say I’m a bit disconcerted by the sheer amount of CG effects on display in this debut trailer. We know Trevorrow is also using practical dinosaurs, but the wide shots of the park and even the iconic gate were created digitally, giving the whole thing less weight than I was expecting. It’s a fool’s errand to make concrete judgments about a film based on its first trailer, but I’m hoping there’s a heavy reliance on character and practical environments in the finished film. Those are the key components that made Steven Spielberg’s first pic so magical.
Anyway, check out the Jurassic World trailer images below and let us know what you think about some of the new addition to the franchise (human-friendly raptors!) in the comments section.
