In Memorium - Anton Yelchin (1989-2016), died in a freak car accident at the age of 27. He was best known for playing Chekov in the new feature film reboots of Star Trek with the upcoming Star Trek Beyond coming out next month, and he was an actor who was unafraid to take chances and worked well in many genre films like Only Lovers Left Alive, Fright Night, and most recently Green Room.

Flashback: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)

This superhero action adventure was a major flop when it came out in 2003, stupidly titled in lots of print ads as LXG. And it deserved to flop because this movie sucked. Based on the incredible comic series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O’Neill. This series held the premise that Allan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, Mina Harker, The Invisible Man, and Dr. Jeckyl all teamed up to fight the evil Professor James Moriarty. Schnepp has horrible memories of sweating and falling asleep watching this cinematic pile, and it’s especially embarrassing because it’s adapted from some of the most exciting and adventurous writing from the comic book master-warlock himself, Alan Moore. No wonder he turned his back on movie adaptations. Fox has talked of rebooting this series again, and I for one would love to see it play out as a streaming series!

Spotlight: Witchblade

This week’s Spotlight is on Witchblade, a 1990's character that is an Image Comic created by Top Cow’s Marc Silvestri, David Wohl, Brian Haberlin, and Michael Turner. The comic featured a young cop named Sarah Pezzini who came into contact with a sentient magical glove called the Witchblade. When she melds with the Witchblade, she goes all bikini/HR Giger, wearing an alien thong and fighting a gaggle of other monster creepy, weirdos. They made a tv series which ran for 2 seasons, and Sarah was portrayed by Yancy Butler, sans the stringy demon floss; as well as a Manga animated that ran 24 episodes. Can this comic be adapted into a feature film, or tried again as an ongoing series?
