Universal Pictures has acquired the sci-fi comedy script, Subdivision, from writers Morgan Jurgenson (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) and Alex Ankeles. Attached to produce is Justin Lin, who is currently filming The Fast and the Furious 6. Interestingly, Lin may also develop the project as a potential directing vehicle. The logline for Subdivision is under lock and key at the moment. The picture comes as another win for the writing team of Jurgenson and Ankeles, who previously sold their spec script Hyperdrive to Paramount. For a list of other projects Lin is involved with, and a look at another recent sci-fi script pick-up, hit the jump.
Variety reports that Universal and Lin will develop Subvision with Lin possibly directing. Lin’s slate is quickly filling up with as he continues to helm The Fast and the Furious series for the near future. He was previously attached to the fifth Terminator installment, but had to walk away due to his Furious commitment. Some of the other projects he’s connected with are: an adaptation of the manga Lone Wolf and Cub for Kamala Films, his own acquisition and plans to direct the adaptation of David Henry Hwang’s play Chinglish, and the racially-charged drama, L.A. Riots.
In other acquisition news, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has picked up Somacell, a dystopian sci-fi thriller from debut writer Ashleigh Powell. The picture centers on a female prison guard who discovers that the virtual reality programs used to rehabilitate prisoners are not exactly what they appear to be. The Dark Knight/Man of Steel co-writer David S. Goyer will produce.
