‘Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids’ Trailer Reveals Joyous Netflix Documentary

     September 27, 2016

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the fantasticconcert documentary Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids. This isn’t just any old concert movie, as Justin Timberlake enlisted Oscar-winning The Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme to take the helm. Demme has experience with concert docs having previously helmed the iconic Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, and his chronicle of the final concert of Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience tour is downright masterful.

I caught Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids at the Toronto International Film Festival a few weeks ago on a whim. I like Timberlake and figured the film would be entertaining enough. As it turns out, it proved to be one of my favorites of the whole festival. It’s really just watching a Justin Timberlake concert, but Demme’s direction captures the performer and his cohorts with such humanity, allowing the film to transcend a simple tracklist. Each shot is perfectly timed, each move motivated, and it all adds up to a rousing, spectacular viewing experience.
