The last time we heard about the long-in-the-works Judge Dredd reboot, filming was set to begin later on this year with Pete Travis (Vantage Point) attached to direct the 3D film with a screenplay by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). With filming set to begin soon, it was only a matter of time until we found out who would don the iconic visor. Now, according to the latest rumor Karl Urban (Star Trek) is going to be offered the lead in the film. More after the jump.
According to Bleeding Cool, Karl Urban will be offered the role of Judge Dredd. However, there is a catch. Supposedly, in this planned version Judge Dredd will never take off his helmet just like in the comic book. This means that we might be seeing a lot of Karl Urban’s chin in 3D when the film hits theaters sometime next year or in 2012.
For more about Judge Dredd, Wikipedia tells us that “Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot.”
