After years of stops and starts, Stephen King's beloved saga The Dark Tower is finally getting a big screen adaptation thanks to Sony and Media Rights Capital. A Royal Affair helmer Nikolaj Arcel is in the director's chair for the tale, which finds Idris Elba's hero Roland Deschain, a.k.a. The Gunslinger locked in a cat-and-mouse game against his nemesis, Matthew McConaughey's nefarious Man in Black, as each travels Mid-Land in search of the elusive Dark Tower. The rest of the cast so far includes Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, a menacing vampire leader, Fran Kranz as Pimli, The Man in Black's right-hand man, and Mad Max Fury Road star Abby Lee as Tirana, a mysterious character whose role seems to have been bulked up for the film, described as “sexy and dangerous,” with “fake human skin and cold snake-like eyes.”

Today, Variety brings the news that Vikings Star Katherine Winnick has joined the cast in a mystery role. It's possible that Winnick could be on board as the central female protagonist Sussanah, or considering the script reportedly pulls from multiple installments of King's expansive tome, she could be playing pretty much anyone. What's all but certain is that she will be kicking some ass. As any Vikings fan can attest, as an accomplished former martial arts champion, Winnick is a formidable physical actress. With production currently underway in Cape Town, we'll hopefully get more details in the near future.
