The very popular sketch duo Key & Peele may be getting the feature film treatment in the near future thanks to the current comedy godfather Judd Apatow.  Former MADtv castmembers Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele first debuted their sketch comedy series Key & Peele on Comedy Central in January 2012, and since then have enjoyed wider success and notoriety as the show has taken off with audiences.  One of its fans appears to be Judd Apatow, as Deadline reports that he will produce an untitled feature comedy vehicle for the duo that will be written by Key and Peele for Universal Pictures.  Hit the jump for more.

Though plot details for the untitled feature are under wraps, Apatow expressed his enthusiasm for the two’s brand of comedy when speaking with Deadline:

“I love these guys because they are riotously, make you sick because you can’t stop laughing, funny. I think Key and Peele are capable of making the movie that America desperately needs right now.”

I’m sadly late to the Key & Peele party as the show remains on my “to-watch” list, but their work seems to be all the rage at the moment.  The series has already been picked up for a fourth season by Comedy Central and their recent East/West College Bowl sequel sketch went viral.  Apatow has developed a number of projects in the past that have yet to come to fruition (remember the Randy movie starring Aziz Ansari’s character from Funny People?), but the deal for Key & Peele is firmly in place at Universal so hopefully this thing progresses to production.

In the meantime, enjoy the East/West College Bowl 2 sketch below.
