Per Heat Vision, Kiefer Sutherland is in final negotiations to star as the antagonist (besides the volcano) in director Paul W.S. Anderson’s disaster movie Pompeii.  The film takes place in 70 A.D. and stars Kit Harington as Milo, the slave of a shipping tycoon, who dreams of the day he can be free and marry his master’s daughter.  He soon finds out that she’s been promised to a corrupt Roman senator and he’s been sold to an owner in Naples.  As Mt. Vesuvius erupts, Milo heads back to Pompeii in order to rescue his love and his best friend, a gladiator trapped in the coliseum.  Sutherland will play the Roman senator in the film, which also stars Jared Harris and Emily Browning.  Production is currently underway on the 3D pic in Toronto.

Additionally, the cast is starting to fill out for what will mark the directorial debut of Melissa McCarthy and her husband/producing partner Ben Falcone.  McCarthy stars in Tammy as a woman who takes a roadtrip with her diabetic/alcoholic/foul-mouthed grandmother after she’s laid off from a fast food restaurant and discovers that her husband’s having an affair.  Shirley MacLaine is poised to play the grandmother, and Deadline reports that the unendingly prolific Mark Duplass has landed a key role in the pic as a man Tammy meets on her trip.

Finally, director Simon West’s (Con Air) remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds crime actioner Heat has landed a co-star for Jason Statham.  Deadline reports that Michael Angarano will play a tech billionaire who hires Statham’s character as a bodyguard and gambling tutor.  The story revolves around Statham's compulsive gambler character on the streets of Vegas who takes odd jobs providing personal security to support his addiction.  Sofia Vergara is also in talks to star in the film.
