If you’re a fan of Terrence Malick, today is a very good day.  Earlier we learned that one of Malick’s films that he shot in 2012, Knight of Cups, is poised to debut at the Berlin Film Festival in February followed by a theatrical release later in 2015, and now the first Knight of Cups trailer has landed online.  The poetic, lyrical nature of Malick is on full display here, but this looks to be a much more hypnotic and chaotic film than his subdued, Oklahoma-set To the WonderChristian Bale leads a stellar cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas, and Brian Dennehy, and the Hollywood-set story marks a pretty major change of location for Malick, whose past two features have followed the lives of people living in the south/Midwest.  And it goes without saying that Emmanuel Lubezki’s cinematography is simply spectacular.  The slot for my most anticipated film of 2015 has now been filled.

Check out the first Knight of Cups trailer after the jump.  The film also stars Isabel Lucas, Imogen Poots, Wes Bentley, Freida Pinto, Teresa Palmer, Armin Mueller-Stahl, and the voice of Ben Kingsley and will be released in theaters sometime next year.

Here’s the synopsis for Knight of Cups:

Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep.

Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy.

The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?
